Christmas Narrative

As Moses lifted up the serpent
So was Jesus lifted up
His healing in man’s conviction
Not in blood in a cup
The flow of wine awaits
The lives of sacrifice
The lives of foes of hate
Whose Lord hath paid a price

As Joseph found the cave
Where the Lord was laid
On the altar of wheat and bread
Wrapped in white linen laid
So did Joseph offer the tomb
A door carved into rock
A massive wheel of stone
The turning of the clock

As the priest would slay the lamb
So was the lamb of God slain
Not to worship the shedding of blood
But to point to the sons of Cain
While his prey are all we’re reliant
On those plotting the deaths of fools
Good mystery is wasted on those
Who drink merrily and break the rules

As so many have been taught to seize the day
Conservative youth and stamina are in tact
The all-night Christmas parties
When they’re at their best, in fact
It’s so intoxicating, the power
But time is the greatest poison of all
Deluding us with good times
To think we’re indestructible

As Antiochus, Herod and Hitler were
So will Lucifer be
Daniel foretold the cycles
And now one waits ravenously
To spoil mankind’s redemption
Knowing he is already beaten
How many sheep will be lured away
When the wrong shepherd’s greeted?

As easy as it is to hate Father Christmas
That hatred kills the love we feel
The red wool reminds us of blood
And those who’ve never had a proper meal
We blame God the Father, mean Santa
But never curse the fool Constantine
For misreading his pagan visions.
May we believe the narrative we’ve seen.
